Antigua, Guatemala

Antigua, Guatemala

Guatemala in Central America is a top country, you must include in your travel plans, it is called “The Country of Eternal Spring”, it has wonderful weather all year and divine places you have to visit.

Antigua, Guatemala, a small colonial city , that has Spanish architecture,  surrounded with volcanoes,  part of Unesco’s World heritage site,  my favorite place in Guate.  Places you have to visit there,  is the famous “Arco de Santa Catalina”, church and convent of “The Capuchinas” (explore how it used to be the life of the nuns and monks), the “Cerro de la Cruz”, (Hill of the Cross) with extremely good views of Antigua , “La Merced” church, the “Central Plaza”, and the  “Palacio de los Capitanes Generales” (Palace of the General Captains, shown in the picture above).

It is very romantic and touristic because of its mystic environment, you will find all kinds of hotels to stay at, but there are some high end ones that I recommend, like Casa Santo Domingo a five star museum and convent hotel, with a great spa, and a exquisite restaurant, this hotel is famous because a lot weddings and marriage proposals take place there. It is very well located, near the principal entrance of Antigua.

Another hotel I recommend is “Pensativo House Hotel”, splendid hotel near Antigua’s Central Park, and a nice restaurant, a wonderful patio, and a terrace with views of the volcano. Rooms are extremely elegant and cozy.

If you want to eat delicious traditional Guatemalan food, go to the restaurant “Fonda de la Calle Real”, they have really good food, that you will like.  But if you want something different Antigua has plenty of options of hotels and restaurants the list is endless.

There are other places in Guatemala you can visit, like “Lake Atitlán” gorgeous place, the ruins of Tikal, etc.  , Guatemala City is also very lovely, people (chapines as they are called) are extremely friendly, they know how to treat tourists and make them feel at home.
