Amsterdam is a very welcoming city, it is one of the most romantic cities in Europe, with a lot of canals, museums, the red light district ( if you are a curious one, or looking for a place to have your bachelor or bachelorette party, but still it is nice it´s the reality of the city, organized and different, please don’t even think about taking pictures of the neon windows, girls get really angry and can throw your phone or camera away, anyway something you can´t miss).
You can walk around Amsterdam because it is small, or rent a bike which is very popular, I called them “the killer bikes” because there are so many people using them it´s hard to cross the streets.
I stayed in a beautiful hotel called Ambassade Hotel which was very well located right in front of the canal with romantic views and near everything you must see.
If you like to collect souvenirs from the places you travel, I recommend buying a pair of “Clogs” the traditional Dutch wooden shoes women wear. Just a short trip outside of Amsterdam you can go and see the Clogs being crafted by hand.
If you are going in April or May visit the Keukenhof the most beautiful park in the world, filled with tulips ( my favorite flower ).
Another must, is going to Giethoorn, a town where practically there are no cars, it is well known for its canals filled with boats and bike roads. The old houses that surround the town have hay ceilings, very picturesque.
“Some tourists think Amsterdam is a city of sin, but in truth it is a city of freedom. And in freedom, most people find sin.” John Green
